Cartoonist Godfrey Mwampembwa, a.k.a GADO was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on August 6, 1969. GADO is the most Syndicated Political/Editorial cartoonist in the East and Central Africa. His works have also been published in Le Monde (France), The Guardian of London and Japan Times among others. An ardent lover of animation and film since childhood, GADO studied Classical animation in 2000-2001, at Vancouver Film School in Canada.
He is the Executive Chairman of Buni Media Ltd, an independent film production company based in Nairobi. Gado is a creator and Producer of the weekly satirical puppet show, the XYZ SHOW appeared on Citzen TV since its inception in 2009-10, Kiss TV from 2011-12 and currently showing on NTV during its 7th season. Gado is a 2007 Prince Claus Laureate. He is also a winner of Kenya National Human Rights Commission Award in Journalism in 2005 and 2007. In 1999 he was named Kenya Cartoonist of the Year.
GADO continues to do editorial cartoons for the Daily and Sunday Nation and the EastAfrican.
He lives in Nairobi with his wife Stephanie and daughters Mwaji-Odeta and Keza-Anganile.
